Mexican Summer & Anthology

Recorded in late 2021 fresh from the completion of his sophomore album Estrela Acesa, São Paulo artist Sessa congregated in collaboration with musicians in residency at Bearcave Studios in Cologne, Germany. Over the course of five days, Sessa led the quartet through a reimagination of material from across his discography, from the enchanting debut album Grandeza to the soon-to-be unearthed Estrela Acesa, his first for Mexican Summer. No doubt inspired by jazz, rich in its philosophy if not also in form, Sessa’s sound – a modern yet reverent take on the vibrant musical lineage of Brazil. The 4-song instrumental EP, on which Sessa is relieved of his vocal leadership, finds its poetry in his nylon-stringed guitar, here nestled softly in the pocket of this foursome, with flourishes of woodwinds, keys, and sundry percussion embellishing subtle but surprising aspects of songs from his catalogue.
